Trekking in the Kerguelen archipelago / my trip to the French Southern Lands (6/16)

<BODY BGCOLOR="#000000" TEXT = "#ABCBBE"> <BR> After one day at the base, we leave for a three days excursion, towards the colony of king penguins of Ratmanoff. <BR>During 40 km, we will trek along the coast of the peninsula of Courbet, discovering its permanent residents.<BR> We first cross small groups of otaries : always very curious and playing.<BR> Then, we meet 2 male albatrosses paying court to a female.<BR> For the anecdote, after the bad weather of the day before, it was not possible to cross the first ford on our path. Intrepid, your webmaster did crosses this ford in pants, anxiously testing his ability to walk with naked feet on (invisible) rollers, his rucksack filled with photographic hardware and other camcorder. I can certify to you that the water temperature did not exceed that of the air (4°C). </BODY>
