One of the richnesses of St Paul are the lobsters. In 1928, a French business man installs a canning facility on the island (see the ruins). After 2 seasons of fishing, 7 people remain on St Paul, in order to maintain the factory. Unfortunately, the business man goes bankrupt and they "are forgotten".
3 years later, only 2 survivors will be found!
As in Amsterdam, the otaries were practically decimated at the beginning of the century and are, today, again very numerous.
